Most Valuable Currencies in the world as at January 2025

Not a surprise that the Kuwaiti Dinar at $3.24 tops the league table nor that the Bahraini Dinar $2.65 and the Omani Riyal at $2.59 are also in the top 5. But maybe UK Chancellor Reeves should pay more attention to the magnificent legacy for which she currently has stewardship of: the British Pound which comes in as the world’s fifth most valuable currency.

Bitcoin

As regular readers will know while SGM-FX does not trade in crypto currencies, our customers increasingly use crypto for both short term trading and longer term investment purposes. Now that the very largest platforms including Blackrock and BNYMellon are integrating crypto products into their service offerings we decided to look into the price predictions for 2025 given the incoming Trump administration’s enthusiasm for the sector. A timely piece by Forbes reporter Dan Birnbaum over the weekend summarised the price predictions for Bitcoin: currently trading at $94.5K the most optimistic level is $250K and the least $78K. While the argument is that as BTC becomes more mainstream price volatility will decline, the point that BTC will be measured against other assets such as gold and subject to global economical and political events cannot be overlooked.

Australian Labour Market

With unemployment stats expected to come in at 4% markets are keeping an eye as to whether the Reserve Bank will indeed cut Australian interest rates in the very near future. With job vacancies up and also inflation numbers due in a couple of weeks, caution is more likely to prevail.

Pinwheel

At Las Vegas‘ Consumer Electrics Show a reasonably priced AI powered watch for children was showcased last week from Pinwheel. Apart from telling and showing the time – sort of expected for a watch – it answers “age suitable” questions, receives and sends texts, and sends the location of the wearer to their parents. All for $155.

Ring of Fire

This day in 1968 Johnny Cash played a concert  for the inmates of Folsom Prison, California USA. Not a first for JC but the first time that one of his prison concerts was recorded and turned into an album.

Love is a burnin’ thing
And it makes a fiery ring
Bound by wild desire
I fell into a ring of fire

I fell into a burnin’ ring of fire
I went down, down, down
And the flames went higher
And it burns, burns, burns
The ring of fire, the ring of fire

I fell into a burnin’ ring of fire
I went down, down, down
And the flames went higher
And it burns, burns, burns
The ring of fire, the ring of fire

The taste of love is sweet
When hearts like ours meet
I fell for you like a child
Oh, but the fire went wild

I fell into a burnin’ ring of fire
I went down, down, down
And the flames went higher
And it burns, burns, burns
The ring of fire, the ring of fire
